THE IDEA IS TO CONNECT WITH PEOPLE THROUGH ART
What is it about art that all people find so appealing? Regardless of what type of art you’re into… it’s the connection that draws you in. The desire to connect is universally human. We want to connect to people, places, and yes… ART! When you look at something that has been created with clay, textile, or paint many questions arise. What motivated its creation? What was the artist feeling or thinking while creating it? What does it mean to you? How does the piece connect to your life experiences? Those questions are our way of making a connection. The appeal of art is the desire to connect!
MY STORY
I’m Nicole M Fisher! I am an abstract painter who lives and works in Virginia. Art has always been in my blood. From an early age I showed an interest in art and in particular painting. My father built me my first easel as a teenager. Growing up in Pennsylvania, I spent much of my time attending art classes, learning the history, theory, and techniques of painting at Germantown Friends School, Moore College of Art, Drexel University, and Chestnut Hill College.
Originally an Interior Design major in college, I felt a calling to become an educator. I’ve spent the last 20 years as an elementary school teacher where I’ve tried to infuse my classroom with my passion for creativity and art.
The pandemic was tough for my family and myself. I needed an outlet for the emotions I was feeling. Art and writing has always been therapy for my soul. With that desire to create, I picked up my paint brushes again after a 20 year hiatus. Now I take all my emotions and pour them onto the canvas. I make beauty out of every raw emotion. Where once there was pain, stress, and anxiety, now there is beauty, joy, love, and art.
MY ART
My palettes are inspired by life. The colors of nature… the ocean, birds, flowers and plants are huge influences on my color choices. Other color influences include an elegantly designed room, the colors of our emotions, and the music that commits memories into our minds and sparks our hearts to feel. Often a photograph or a song will spark my mood. Or I’ll see a color palette in nature that I just can’t resist!
My paintings are very intuitive. I don’t plan my end composition ahead of time. I allow my paintings to unfold as they see fit. Shapes and texture create the composition of my paintings. I’ve always been intrigued by geometry. This is reflected in my use of bold lines and circles in many of my paintings. My paintings are layered gems. Using palette knives, brushes in varied sizes, scrapers, and many other found objects I add texture and depth to the layers of my paintings. Fluid acrylic paint is often used to add a bit of softness and playfulness to balance out the bold geometric shapes that are prevalent in my pieces.
